Jesus Raised the Dead

A perceptive comment on Sura 5:110, excerpted from a newsgroup article.

: "The similitude of Jesus before Allah is as that of Adam, he created him
: from dust, then said to him: 'Be' and he was". Qur'an (3):59.

: So, we should probably add Adam(P) also in the trinity to make it
: quadra-unity. Four-in-one! And the Qur'an is still in line with 'true'
: Christian beliefs according to the logic of Mr. Dagoose, huh!

Adam is a creation of Allah also. However, Adam didn't do miracles. Never
raised the dead, or opened the eyes of the blind; Jesus did.

You might be tempted to mention Sulaiman or Moses for people who did miracles,
but in the case of Sulaiman, he was dependant on the Jinn, and in the case of
Moses Allah did everything while Moses did an "act." Very much like simulated
singing with you opening your lips while having a tape running in the
background.

Let's look at some Quranic ayat:

[20.19] He said: Cast it down, O Musa!
[20.20] So he cast it down; and lo! it was a serpent running.

[20.22] And press your hand to your side, it shall come out white
        without evil: another sign:

[20.67] So Musa conceived in his mind a fear.
[20.68] We said: Fear not, surely you shall be the uppermost,
[20.69] And cast down what is in your right hand; it shall devour what
they have wrought; they have wrought only the plan of a magician, and
the magician shall not be successful wheresoever he may come from.

While in the case of Jesus, the Quran says:

[5.110] When Allah will say: O Isa son of Marium! Remember My favor
on you and on your mother, when I strengthened you I with the holy
Spirit, you spoke to the people in the cradle and I when of old age, and
when I taught you the Book and the wisdom and the Taurat and the
Injeel; and when you determined out of clay a thing like the form of a
bird by My permission, then you breathed into it and it became a bird by
My permission, and you healed the blind and the leprous by My
permission; and when you brought forth the dead by My permission; and
when I withheld the children of Israel from you when you came to them
with clear arguments, but those who disbelieved among them said: This
is nothing but clear enchantment.

The difference is clear. Jesus DID, while Moses acted while Allah did. The
permission of Allah is not disputed as we don't claim that Jesus acted without
Allah's permission.

As for 3:59 you quoted above, I don't think you are implying that the act
of creation in both cases was similar, are you?
